To address the global demand for ICT skilled professionals, Cisco Regional Academy provides online courses, interactive tools and laboratory activities to help individuals develop the skills needed to fill ICT positions in virtually every industry. CISCO Networking Academy is an education initiative whose aims are to provide practical communication technology information skills to students in many countries worldwide. Through its global network CISCO empowers people by providing technological education enabling students to utilize available information opportunities that stimulates development and long term sustainable economic growth.
The courses offered include Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA), Wireless LANs (WLANs) and Information Technology Essentials (ITE). CCNA course is taught in semesters 1-4 and is the first step in the Cisco Certification career path. Course participants learn how to design, install, configure Local Area Networks (LAN) and Wide Area Networks (WAN), including but not limited to use of technolgies such as Ethernet and protocols (EGRP, OSPF, RIP, VLANS), IP Addressing (IPv4&6), Access Lists and Frame Relay. A student can then choose to progress to the next step of CCNP (Semesters 4-8). WLANs course covers design, installation, configuration, operation and troubleshooting of IEEE 802.11 a, 802.11g Wireless LANs. ITE course covers PC hardware and operating systems. The course started in February 2012 at the ICT Centre.
