Introduction

Computer Science and Information Technology are fields that combine a collection of other disciplines such as electrical and electronics engineering, software engineering, mathematics to mention just but a few. Everything we do today has some form of computing in it, be it our mobile phone, banking, security, learning, entertainment, health, travel and many more. As a result the students who graduate from JKUAT with a BSc. I.T. or BSc. Mathematics and Computer Science are at the helm of many organizations both private and public providing value adding skills, services and solutions.
JKUAT is also the leading university in I.T. and Computer Science in East and Central Africa, the first within Kenya to have started I.T. and Computer Science. The JKUAT Taita Taveta Campus department of Mathematics and Informatics is staffed by some of the best scholars in many fields ranging from statistics to software engineering and we look forward to having an enriching interaction with you. Courses Offered

Bachelor of Science Information Technology (4 years Full Time)

Aims and Objective of the Course

The Degree Program is aimed at producing graduates who will;

• Provide the knowledge and skills necessary to design, build, intergrate and support Information Technology solutions in the Information and Computer Industry.
• Use the skills obtained for self employment.
• Participate in a proffessional manner in the development of modern Information Technology products and services.
• Specify, desgn and implement computer based elements of computer systems which are technically and economically acceptable.
• Develop skills and abilities in an independent professional manner with a view to managing their own professional business in Information Technlogy such as E-commerce.

Eligibility (Any of the underlisted)

• KCSE C+(Plus) with C (Plain) in Maths and English,
• Two Principal passes at K.A.C.E.
• A Pass in Diploma in Information Technology (IT), Management & Information Technology (MIT) or Computer Technology.
• or an equivalent qualification recognized by senate.

N.B: JKUAT Diploma holders in IT & MIT who have obtained a Credit Pass and above or equivalent join the B.Sc. IT Course in Stage II.

B.Sc. Mathematics and Computer Science (4 years Full Time).

• KCSE Mean grade of C+ and Mathematics C+ and C- in both Chemistry and Physics or Physical Sciences and Biological Sciences with a Grade OR KACE, 2 principal passes.
• OR a Diploma in relevant subjects and at least a credit pass.

Bridging Course in Mathematics (3 Months Full Time)

• For degree or Diploma applicants.
• Aggregate C+ in KCSE, Division II KCE or the equivalent grade.
• For certificate applicants Aggregate Grade C in KCSE, Division III KCE or the equivalent grade.

Application forms can be obtained upon payment of non-refundable fee of Kshs 1500 for Degree Courses and Kshs. 500 for bridging Course, from the Office of Principal Taita Taveta Campus at JKUAT or from the Office of the Principal, JKUAT, Taita Taveta Campus near Maribenyi in Voi or the Office of the Principal.

Diploma and Certificate in Information Technology

Aims and Objectives of the Course

The Courses are aimed at producing personnel who:

• Have the ability to use industry standard computer software and hardware.
• Are equipped with problem solving skills and can easily adapt in a fast changing technological world.
• Will assist in system administration and networking in areas such as production, research, consultancy and education.
• Will be able to progress academically to higher levels of education into relevant degree courses.

Eligibility (Any of the underlisted)

Diploma in IT (18 Months Full Time):

• KCSE C (Plain) with C- in Maths and English.
• Credit pass in IT Certificate I
• KACE Certificate with a subsidiary pass in Maths.
• or an equivalent qualification recognized by senate

Certificate in IT (3 Months);

KCSE C- (Minus) or an equivalent qualification recognized by senate.
